• Pedestrian Killed In Suspected DUI Crash In North County ID'd (patch.com) — A 34-year-old pedestrian was killed late Saturday night on West San Marcos Boulevard after being struck by a Ford F-150, and authorities are still investigating what led to the crash. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and deputies are asking anyone who saw what happened to contact the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station.
   

• Labor Department fines California grower for violations (insidenova.com) — A San Marcos-based grower has been ordered to repay $171,400 after federal investigators found farmworkers living in unsafe, substandard housing while being charged rent. The U.S. Department of Labor detailed problems like mold, infestations and missing safety equipment, and says it will continue scrutinizing agricultural employers. Advocates argue better enforcement and technology investments are needed to protect vulnerable workers.
   

• Leader Jones Issues Statement On Tijuana River Valley Sewage Crisis Agreement - (thevistapress.com) — San Marcos residents are represented in the state senate district whose leader is pushing federal and binational action on the long-running Tijuana River Valley sewage crisis. Senator Brian Jones praises new U.S. EPA steps, calling the pollution a serious environmental and public health threat for San Diego-area communities and pledging continued involvement to ensure promised fixes are delivered.
