3 Fairfax Equity Committee Members Resign: Report

"Toxic" environment cited by one committee member. Mayor apologizes.

FAIRFAX, CA – Three members of a Fairfax committee that aims to promote social justice have resigned, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

A “toxic,” racially charged atmosphere was cited by one of the three non-white members who resigned at the Aug. 5 meeting according to the report.

The three members have formed a new group according to the report. “Ross Valley Unite” will not be affiliated with the town, the report said.

“Our meetings were so toxic and filled with ego and silencing of Black and brown voices that we could not get past that and on to the work,” Tayu Neogy said according to the report.

Fairfax Mayor Bruce Ackerman, who serves on the committee, issued an apology in which he acknowledged he may have been in over his head.
