Happening this month at the San Geronimo Valley Community Center from December 7–20, the Center’s Art Committee is hosting Small Works, Big Dreams: The Art Start Auction, featuring dozens of local artists who’ve contributed small, affordable pieces—perfect for holiday gifting. This year’s lineup includes Judy Arndt, Virginia Barrett, Kathy Beckerley, Geoff Bernstein, Martha Cederstrom, Cindy Davis, Leo den Ouden, Rudi Dundas, Julie Egger, Kristin Jakob, Michel Kotski, Judith Selby Lang, Richard Lang, Barbara Libby-Steinmann, Laurel Marinelli, Marty Meade, Judy North, Todd Pickering, Molly Rea, Larry Rippee, Anna Rochester, Connie Smith-Siegel, Gabriele Schwibach, Alice Shaw, Virgil Shaw, John Torrey, Sandy White, Zoltron, and more.
All proceeds support the Center’s Emerging Artist Program, which helps new artists get the materials they need to exhibit their work here at the Center—so every bid directly fuels the next generation of Valley creatives.
The event wraps up with a free closing celebration on Saturday, December 20th from 2–4pm, complete with live music from The Thursday Night Old Time Music Makers and hands-on holiday craft making.

Now through December 21st, Bon Air Center is hosting an urgent Hat, Scarf, and Glove Drive to benefit St. Vincent de Paul. We invite our community to donate new hats, scarves, socks, and gloves for all ages to St. Vincent DePaul as they assemble their Cold Weather Gift Packages for their clients in need. 
Collection bins are conveniently distributed inside merchants throughout Bon Air, making it easy to drop off your items while you shop or dine. Every donation brings comfort and warmth to someone in need—join us in making a difference this holiday season!

Held at the welcoming Church of the Nativity in the Terra Linda hillside, this spacious and serene setting offers beautiful acoustics, open floor space, and a peaceful, tree-lined environment that naturally supports rest and renewal. The church warmly embraces spiritual and wellness practices, making it an ideal home for this experience. The community is invited to the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael on Dec. 24 at 5:00 pm. Pre-service will begin at 4:40. It will be service featuring Lessons and Carols, reflecting the story of the birth of Jesus and broader themes of a vision of peace for all people. The service will feature pieces by The Chancel Choir and the Sounds A’Pealing Handbell Choir. John Steiner, Owen Xu and Isabella Lo will be featured on the piano. The String Quartet will feature Owen Xu, violin, Tippy Thomson, violin, Alex Volants, viola and Joy Chor, cello. Children’s Worship Activity Bags will be provided. The service will be livestreamed on the church YouTube channel.&nbsp; Additional parking will be available in the Marin Academy lot on 5th Ave. Also limited mobility and handicap parking in spaces behind church on Mission Ave. The handicap accessible church is located at 1510 Fifth Ave, San Rafael.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The San Geronimo Valley Community Center and Pt. Reyes Books proudly present THE GRATEFUL DEAD BY JIM MARSHALL : an evening of Photos, Stories and Music. The evening begins at 6:00pm with a book discussion facilitated by David Gans and Amelia Davis, the co-authors and curators of the book, THE GRATEFUL DEAD BY JIM MARSHALL: Photos and Stories from the Formative Years, 1966–1977. Music with David Gans' It Was Dead When I Got Here follows at 7:00pm
THE GRATEFUL DEAD BY JIM MARSHALL features hundreds of photos—many never before seen—by the greatest rock and roll photographer of them all. With this book fans can immerse themselves in the Grateful Dead’s formative years, from their humble beginnings to their rise to global stardom, the era when they developed their pioneering musical style and their legendary live performances. The book is curated by Amelia Davis and David Gans and features an afterword by Grammy‐winning musician John Mayer.
THE GRATEFUL DEAD BY JIM MARSHALL represents the unbeatable pairing of an iconic band with the ultimate rock and roll photographer. Jim Marshall took over 10,000 pictures of the Grateful Dead over the course of his career—from electrifying photos of the Dead performing for masses of fans to intimate moments of band members rehearsing and creating together to casual domestic scenes. Marshall’s instinctive eye matched the Dead’s improvisational style, and he was welcomed into its family as a peer, colleague, and friend. He was there with the Grateful Dead at Woodstock, the Newport Pop Festival, the last free concert on Haight Street, the Human Be‐In, and many more. THE GRATEFUL DEAD BY JIM MARSHALL features over 200 of his images—a third of which have never been published anywhere—all printed in the rich, high‐contrast tones that Marshall favored.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS Jim Marshall, who died in 2010 at age 74, is widely celebrated as a premier music photographer and a pioneer of the genre. His portfolio includes photos of virtually every major musician of his era, not only the icons of rock and roll, but also giants of jazz, blues, and country. Annie Leibowitz called him “THE rock and roll photographer.” Marshall was a legend not only for his outsize personality but also for the way he seemed to disappear when behind his trademark Leica camera, thereby producing some of the most intimate and iconic images in music history.
 David Gans is a musician, author, and radio host. He has published five books about the Grateful Dead and produced boxed sets, compilations, and tribute albums for the band. Gans lives in Oakland, CA. Amelia Davis is the owner and manager of Jim Marshall Photography LLC. She lives in San Francisco. John Mayer is a GRAMMY® Award–winning artist and songwriter. Since 2015, he has toured with Dead &amp; Company on lead guitar and vocals.
