6 Students Identified In Deadly Marin County Car Crash

Four students died in the crash and two, including the driver, remain in critical condition.

SAN ANSELMO-FAIRFAX, CA — The Tamalpais Union High School District superintendent identified the six local teens involved in a car crash Friday that left four of them dead and two others in critical condition, a press release said.

Tara Taupier, the Tamalpais Union High School District superintendent, identified the Archie Williams High School students in a message to families late on Sunday. Olive Koren, a ninth grader, and Sienna Katz, Josalynn Osborn, and Ada Kepley, all 10th graders, died when the Volkswagen SUV they were riding in struck a tree on San Geronimo Valley Road April 18, police said.

Laremont Stranczeck and Marley Barclay remain hospitalized. Straczeck is in critical condition and Barclay is reportedly stable but also listed as critical, police said. All occupants were between 14 and 16 years old in the crash that California Highway Patrol said occurred just south of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

“Words cannot fully express the sorrow we feel,” Taupier wrote in a letter to the district community. “Please continue to hold all six students, their families, and the entire Archie Williams community in your hearts as we move through this tragedy with love and compassion.”

CHP said they responded, along with Marin County Sheriff’s Office and Marin County Fire Department, to the scene around 7:30 p.m. Friday. Three of the teens died at the crash site and a fourth died at the hospital.

"This is an incredibly heart wrenching time for our entire school and broader community," Taupier wrote. "As we await more information, we know the Tam District community will pull together in compassion, care, and support for one another. Thank you for keeping the students and their families in your thoughts.

Verified accounts have been set up for three of the victims, though more legitimate GoFundMe pages may exist, according to KRON.

CHP said the SUV appeared to have veered off the road and struck a tree on the shoulder.

"On behalf of the California Highway Patrol, I extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and classmates of the four young students whose lives were tragically lost in this heartbreaking crash," said Amy Newton, CHP Marin Area Commander Capt., in a statement.

Archie Williams High School, which is located in the unincorporated town of San Anselmo, had 1,143 students enrolled as of fall 2024.

The cause remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Marin CHP office at (415) 924-1100.
