Fairfax Readies To Complete Community Mural Renovations

The painting of the mural will follow an Aug. 1 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

FAIRFAX, CA — The town of Fairfax’s Community Mural is about to get a new paint job.

Nearly 30 years after it was first unveiled, the mural has been undergoing renovations that will culminate with a new painting.

The mural painting will follow a ribbon-cutting ceremony next month.

Mayor Bruce Ackerman and Frank Gonzales, the town’s artist in residence who led the original mural painting in 1993, will both be on hand for the Aug. 1 ceremony, which will be held at 10 a.m.

The renovations are sponsored by the Fairfax Volunteer Board, which started the project in April.

Volunteers have held four volunteer work parties to clean up the mural and prep for its painting.

The next step is touching up the mural and filling small holes in the concrete, Fairfax Vice Mayor Stephanie Hellman said.

“This work of art is a community gem that many residents haven't discovered,” Hellman told Patch.

“It's been such a pleasure being part of the refurbishment.”
