
The Marin County Coroner identified a woman killed in a car fire last week as Nancy Herlands, 58, of Fairfax.
On Thursday, Aug. 4, around 6 p.m., Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene of a vehicle fire on Shoreline Highway just south of Tomales. The car was on fire when firefighters arrived at the scene, according to officers, and a deceased individual was located in the wreckage of the car.
An investigation is being conducted by the Sheriff's Office and Herlands was identified as the individual in the car at the time of the fire using dental and DNA records.

Though no further information is available as to the cause of or circumstances surrounding the fire, which is still under investigation, foul play has been ruled out as contributing to the incident.
