MARIN COUNTY, CA — Firefighters on Thursday battled a West Marin vegetation blaze that knocked down a large redwood tree, authorities said.
The tree, which was approximately 8 feet in diameter, created a burn area of 100 x 400 feet, Marin County Fire said.
The blaze at Samuel P. Taylor State Park’s Pioneer Tree Trail started at around 11:30 a.m., the agency said.

“This required extensive mop up with large resource commitment,” the agency said.
Three firefighter engines and one hand crew were expected to remain on the scene until around 8 p.m.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
