Marin Shooting Suspect Arrested

The suspect surrendered peacefully according to police.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting in the Canal neighborhood this morning that left his victim hospitalized, a San Rafael Police Department spokesman said.

The suspect emerged from a building in the area of the shooting on Novato Street and surrendered peacefully, Lt. Dan Fink said.

The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the back and was taken to a local hospital after being treated on the scene by San Rafael Fire Department paramedics, Fink said.

His condition was not immediately known.

Officers responded to a report of the shooting at around 11:05 a.m., Fink said.

An interaction between the suspect and his victim preceded the shooting but it was not known if they knew each other, Fink said.

Novato Street between Canal Street and Kerner Boulevard is expected to remain closed until the early evening as police process evidence and interview witnesses in the area, Fink said.
