Marin Shooting Probed

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Authorities are seeking the public’s help in the investigation of a downtown San Rafael shooting over the weekend, police said.

No injuries have yet been reported in connection with the early-Sunday morning shooting, and no arrests have yet been made, according to police.

The shooting was reported just after midnight near a 7-Eleven store in the 700 block of B Street between First Street and Second Street, the San Rafael Police Department said.

“It is unknown, at this time, if anyone was shot or injured in the incident since no victims have come forward,” police said in a statement.

“SRPD Detectives remain in contact with area hospitals.”

Officers arrived on the scene within seconds of the reports of the shooting, but by the time they got there all involved parties were gone, police said.

The shooting followed a physical altercation between two groups, police said.

“During the fight, suspects from each group escalated the incident when they began shooting at each other,” police said.

Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles fleeing the area.

The area of the shooting was closed for about two hours while investigators probed the shooting, police said.

“Officers and investigators located several items related to the shooting and are currently reviewing surveillance videos to identify suspects and gain leads as to what occurred,” police said.

“This appears to be an isolated incident between two groups of people. There is no outstanding threat to the public. This is an unfortunate occurrence in San Rafael, and detectives are working diligently to identify and arrest those responsible.”
