Marin Teen Shines On ‘The Voice,’ Joins ‘Team Ariana’

Sophia Bromberg performance on reality-TV music contest show earlier this month has made the Marin teen an overnight sensation.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – An unheralded Marin teen’s appearance on reality-TV music competition show earlier this month has made Sophia Bromberg an overnight sensation.

The 16-year-old San Rafael resident’s performance of Conan Gray’s “Heather” wowed Ariana Grande, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson during an Oct. 4 appearance on “The Voice” during a “blind audition” for Season 21 of the NBC show.

After turning the chairs of the three above-mentioned musical heavyweights, signifying that they wanted her to perform on their teams in the later rounds of the competition, Bromberg selected Team Grande.

Country musician Blake Shelton was the only judge among the four who didn’t turn his chair.

“I’m Sophia Bromberg, I’m 16 years old and I just got my driver’s license,” she said with a fist pump.

The shows judges were excited for Bromberg, too.

“I really do think you have such an identifiable and unique voice,” Grande said during the show.

“What a beautiful, colorful and entertaining performance, and you have whistle notes as well.”

Legend described Bromberg’s performance as “riveting.”

Said Clarkson: “You paint with your vocal chords, and I find that incredibly cool.”
