FAIRFAX, CA — A Marin teen leadership group is bringing warmth to those in need this winter.

For the rest of this month the Marin County Free Library is offering a DIY handwarmer kit to anyone who donates new socks. The project is being conducted in partnership with the Ritter Center.

The “Share the Warmth” was developed by the MCFL’s Teen Leadership Crew as a way to help others and promote community engagement, MCFL Outreach Librarian Rashida Skaar told Patch.

Volunteers Claire Austin, Stella Vasquez and Kate Lane, were instrumental in developing the program and putting it in motion, Skaar said.

“As we talked, we started thinking that this format for library programs — pairing creativity and community engagement — could be a great way to benefit the wider communit, Skaar said.

“Having worked in homeless community organizations in the past, I knew that clean, new socks are always a need for people experiencing homelessness.”
