Obama Has a 22-to-1 Fundraising Edge Over Romney in San Anselmo and Fairfax

This just in: San Anselmo and Fairfax residents aren't coming out in droves to donate the Republican ticket in the presidential race. San Anselmo and Fairfax voters have given more than 22 times the amount of money to President Barack Obama than Republican nominee Mitt Romney, according to data from Federal Elections Commission.

These most recent numbers—which run from April 1, 2011 through August 30, 2012—show Obama supporters in San Anselmo have given more than $149,00, while Romney supporters have donated $7,150. In Fairfax, Obama received nearly $32,000 in donations and Romney has tallied just $1,500.

And while San Anselmo and Fairfax voters have given significantly more money to the Obama campaign, it has been in smaller and more frequent increments. The records show that Obama received 678 donations at an average of $219 in San Anselmo, while Romney received 14 donations at an average of $511. 

In Fairfax, Obama received 223 donations at an average of $143, while Romney received 8 donations from just two people at an average of $183.

That doesn't mean Obama isn't racking up big donations, however. In San Anselmo, Obama has received 43 donations over $1,000, while Romney has received 2 donations over $1,000. In Fairfax, Obama has received 7 donations over $1,000, while Romney has received 1 donation over $1,000.

Marin is also deep Obama country, as the president has tallied more than $1.2 million in donations from Marin residents to date, far outpacing the $266,00 in donations to Romney from Marin to date. Mill Valley was the biggest donor to Obama in Marin at more than $508,000, while Romney drew the most donations from San Rafael at more than $103,000.

The information in the database was downloaded from the FEC’s website. The data is based on quarterly reports, and is current through August. The data will be updated in mid-October, and Patch will keep you posted with the new numbers as soon as they’re available.
