Rumors Surround Downtown Vacancies

Ping-pong community center, movie theater among ideas bandied about.

Empty storefronts in downtown San Anselmo are gaining attention as gossip about possible tenants is growing. As our columnist pointed out on Monday, .

Spurring those rumors is the fact that San Anselmo's most famous resident where La Sede Bella and were located. (Lucas is also wrapping up work on the strip of land that houses and will soon relocate the music shop next door to its fancy new building.)

The Marin Independent Journal jumped into the fray yesterday, saying that among the options that have been discussed for the downtown location are a community ping-pong center or a mini-park.

[Manager of DSAP, a limited liability corporation that owns the property, Natalie] Talbott said, "I know that idea has been thrown out there. I think the idea was to think outside the box and try to be on the cutting edge here in San Anselmo."

But Talbott added, "At this point there has not been a lot of traction to get moving on any of those things yet. I'm not aware of any current tenants that we're looking at because we're uncertain what direction the property is going to go in."

One group pushing their hope for downtown is a coalition of businesses and people hoping for a movie theater. , collecting signatures in support of the idea and posting a banner at the Hub. At the time, Clifford had no specific location in mind.

"If there's a will, it'll happen," he said at the time. "I simply want a theater."

Now, Clifford is presenting Lucas with a petition of signatures requesting that the downtown empty storefront be considered for a movie theater location.
