San Anselmo Party Host Cited For Underage Drinking: Police

Officers issued a "social host" citation Saturday after discovering a group of underage partygoers consuming alcohol, police said.

SAN ANSELMO, CA — A weekend house party in San Anselmo was broken up by police after authorities allege they discovered minors drinking alcohol.

According to Central Marin Police, officers fielded a report concerning a "juvenile party" at a home around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers said they discovered a group of minors gathered on private property with alcohol, prompting them to issue a citation for violating San Anselmo's social host ordinance.

The rule holds adults responsible for parties that occur in their homes where underage people are consuming alcohol, even if they are not home at the time. Officers can write citations for violations, carrying civil fines and other fees related to underage gatherings.

First-time violations carry a fine of $750, and further violations can result in higher fines and community service.
