School District Boundary Meeting Moved to White Hill; Brainstorming Tonight

New school boundaries are hot topic in town.

The much-anticipated meeting to discuss new elementary school boundaries this Thursday has been moved to School's multi-purpose room in anticipation of increased crowds.

The school board meeting will still run from 7 to 9 p.m. and will focus on a number of proposals that attempt to create even boundaries for the four new K-5 schools (after Brookside transitions to two K-5 campuses). Read about the most recent proposals .

No decisions have yet been made by the board, except to note that any boundary changes for the coming year will not affect current students and families will likely be grandfathered in to their existing schools.

A number of parents and neighborhoods have become upset over the likelihood they might be reassigned to a school farther away. The issue is that not enough families live near Upper Brookside, meaning that in order for the school sizes to be even some areas will have to be reassigned to Upper despite being closer to other schools.

The issue has even led some neighborhoods to create websites like notourneighborhood.com and wewalktowadethomas.com.

Tonight, Wednesday, some parents and community members will meet at at 8 p.m. in an effort to brainstorm possible solutions to present to the board on Thursday, instead of just fighting the battle of whose neighborhood shouldn't go to Upper Brookside. The  and is being organized by San Anselmo resident Matt Brasler.
