Sonoma Deputies Rescue Kayaker From Tomales Bay: Video

The dramatic rescue was caught on camera.

MARIN COUNTY, CA -- A kayaker was recovering Monday after being rescued by Sonoma deputies at Tomales Bay. The rescue was caught on camera and posted to Facebook by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Sunday, when deputies patrolling the area via helicopter overheard rescuers were sent to Tomales Bay.

"The crew immediately changed direction and headed towards the bay, arriving in approximately 7 minutes, the department wrote in the Facebook post. "While flying to Tomales Bay, a rescue-paramedic in the back of the helicopter donned a wetsuit to prepare to enter the water."

Deputies spotted the man whose "kayak was full of water and partially submerged as he hung onto the side of it."

The department wrote that another kayaker came to help the man, while a deputy was released from the helicopter to pull the man up.

"The pilot flew the pair back to the parking lot where the victim was evaluated and treated for hypothermia by Marin Co Fire Paramedics," the department wrote. "The man was in good condition after he got out of his wet clothes and warmed up."
