Twenty Things Freshmen Should Know

1. Get involved in anything you’re even slightly interested in (drama, music, clubs, sports, something).
2. Ask questions.
3. Talk to your counselor A LOT; they will be very helpful.
4. Your planner; use it, don’t lost it.
5. Don’t procrastinate; your home work IS important
6. If you’re looking for an extension, don’t ask the day the assignment is due.
7. Late homework is a lot better than no homework at all.
8. Email your teachers whenever you have a question.
9. Be outgoing; there are no ‘cool jackets’ at Drake.
10. Remember to enjoy high school. It goes by quickly!
11. There is no Big Theater.
12. Devonshire has no air conditioning – prepare for the heat.
13. Best bathrooms in Devonshire and the canteen.
14. Get your tutorial pass at or before break, NOT during advisory.
15. Always bring advisory food when it’s your turn.
16. There’s nothing wrong with asking another student for directions to a classroom – everyone is confused early on.
17. Staff are a lot cooler than they look; make friends with them and earn their respect. Pat, Rich, and Lena are hella chill.
18. Don’t do anything illegal during school hours or at school events; there are serious consequences.
19. Get on Millie’s good side; it’s worth it!
20. Always show your Pirate Pride!
