Two Near Robberies in San Anselmo

An attempted burglary and home entry on Thursday.

 

San Anselmo experienced two near robberies on Tuesday when a man attempted to grab a woman’s purse on Pine Street and another man attempted to enter a home on Karl Avenue.

“From what we can tell, they’re not connected,” said Cpl. Sethi Jervan.

Around 10:30 a.m., a woman reportedly was working upstairs at her home on Karl Avenue when she heard someone knocked on the door. She told police that she assumed it was solicitors, but didn’t respond. When she heard more knocking, the resident went downstairs and found someone attempting to open the door.

According to Jervan, the woman opened the door and screamed at the suspects attempting to enter the property, yelling that she would call the police.

There was reportedly a 40-year-old man Hispanic man actually trying to enter the door. He was 5’8” with a mustache and was accompanied by an approximately 20-year-old Hispanic woman with long dark hair. The two left in a silver compact car, said the police.

But, officers were unable to locate either of the suspects or the car.

Police also were unable to locate a man who reportedly attempted to grab a woman’s purse in the Pine Street parking lot around 5:30 p.m.

A woman was walking through the Pine Street parking lot shortly before 5:30 p.m. when a man tried to grab her purse. The woman held on to it, making him lose his grip, “so he took off running,” said Jervan.

The man was reportedly a six-foot white male in his 20s with a slim build. He was wearing jeans and a black sweatshirt. There was another man with him, but no description was give to police.

The woman and a nearby passerby took off chasing the suspects, according to police, before coming in to the station to report the incident. Officers were not able to locate the suspects.

Residents are encouraged to lock all their doors – car and house – whether they are at home or not and to keep valuables out of site.
