What Do You Wish Was Here?

Patch comments have pointed out that 556 San Anselmo Ave., once known as Debbie Does Desserts, has been vacant for quite a while. What do you envision there?

San Anselmo-Fairfax Patch is featuring vacant or abandoned buildings and asking readers: "What do you wish was here?"

The idea was inspired by Candy Chang from New Orleans, who in 2010 created "I wish this was" stickers and placed thousands around the city for residents to fill in the blanks. Stickers can be bought online here.

I noticed that two people who commented on a on Red Hill Shopping Center's changes and s closure mentioned that 556 San Anselmo Ave., a longtime vacant spot that once housed Debbie Does Desserts, could make a great eatery.

"The Debbies Does Desserts building has been sitting empty forever...it could be such a great place for a restaurant for someone with a view of the creek and ducks..."

"Just saying - facts are facts - and I hope Easy Street and its fans find a new location where they meet and keep on keeping on.

The Creekside former Debbie Does Dessert [stet] spot sounds perfect.

Why not focus on turning this whole sour lemon of a situation into sweet lemonade?"

According to the Marin Blog on SFGate, Debbie Does Desserts chef Debbie Gonne left downtown San Anselmo in late 2009 for a new gig at the Woodlands Cafe (at the Woodlands Market in Kentfield). The space the Bella Luna Cafe, but Patch the cafe was "not to be."

The 836-square-foot space is listed online at a rental rate of $2,800 a month.
