Council to Discuss New Hotel Development at Special Meeting

A hotel developer based out of Southern California that has built such projects as the Disneyland Hotel has expressed interest in building a hotel in San Bruno.

The City Council will be to discuss setting up a plan to bring in a new hotel development to San Bruno.

Destination Properties, a Riverside-based hotel developer that has built such high-profile projects as the Disneyland Hotel and the Claremont Resort in Oakland, has expressed interest in the city. According to the meeting agenda, the council is expected to decide on whether to sign a letter of intent to establish a negotiating agreement with the hotel developer.

Mayor Jim Ruane said it is not every day that a developer proposes to build a new hotel in San Bruno, so it is important for the city to jump on the opportunity.

"We have a real keeper here," Ruane said of Destination Properties.

Details about the possible development were not yet made available.

At the special meeting, the council will also be deciding whether to send a letter to the San Francisco mayor, urging him to in Pacifica. Sharp Park, which has been operated by San Francisco since 1932, has been involved in a controversial battle over whether the course—a money-loser and apparently a threat to a number of endangered species—should be closed.

The council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall in Conference Room 115.
