New Trial Date Set for Cypress Ave. Homicide Case
Two men are accused of killing 23-year-old Christopher Chastain after an argument went awry on a late night in 2011.

The trial for the last year on Cypress Avenue has been reset for the fall, a San Mateo County superior court judge said Monday.
Nicholas Vargas, 25, of San Bruno and Brandon Thompson, 27, of San Mateo both face murder charges for the death of Christopher Chastain. According to the district attorney's office, on the night of April 10, 2011, the 6-foot-5 Chastain was allegedly stabbed, beaten with a pipe wrench and suffocated after an argument at Vargas's parents' house on Cypress Avenue.
Both Vargas and Thompson have entered not guilty pleas. But the trial has been delayed because Vargas entered an insanity plea and doctors were ordered to evaluate his mental health at the time of the alleged homicide.
