The recent Parkside Intermediate grad was eighth-grade class president and the recipient of a $2,500 scholarship from the Junior Giants program.

Each week, San Bruno Patch will feature an amazing kid, youth group, teen or sports team that wows us with their accomplishments.

This week, we feature a recent Parkside Intermediate School student who is active in the city's Junior Giants baseball league.

Accomplishment: Not only did Brittany finish Parkside as the eighth-grade class president, but she also won the Harmon and Sue Burns scholarship from the Junior Giants, the free, non-competitive baseball program for boys and girls ages 5 to 18 years old that is sponsored by the San Francisco Giants.

The scholarship is named after the late Giants owners Harmon and Sue Burns and is a $2,500 scholarship to use for college after Brittany graduates from high school. As a scholarship recipient, Brittany will have to keep up her grades and volunteer, but she'll also get to take advantage of activities such as college tours on behalf of the Junior Giants program.

As a player in the league, Brittany also was the recipient last year of the Willie Mac award—along with her father Daryl Chin, who was a manager—which is named in honor of Giants Hall of Famer Willie McCovey and is the junior version of the annual award given to a Giants player by his teammates.

"That was the first time ever that a parent and child won the Willie Mac award in the same year," said Lorry Greenberg, the San Bruno Junior Giants league commissioner. "They’re just awesome."

Key to Awesomeness: "Her energy, enthusiasm and kindness. She's good with other kids, and she's especially exceptional with kids and adults," Greenberg said of Brittany. "You meet her one time and you'll just know."
