She successfully completed demanding prerequisites before she began working toward the Girl Scout Gold Award for her troop, Troop 30371. The requirements include completing a senior journey and earning the Silver Award, which Estelita did.
Each journey she completed gave her the skills needed to plan and implement her project for the Gold Award, she said.

For her project, which she called “Blankets and Meals for Buddies,” Estelita made 25 fleece blankets with younger Girl Scouts as well as made meals and donated them to Larkin Street Youth Shelter in San Francisco. She also made meals for St. Bruno's .
She said she chose to do the project after taking a trip with her family to San Francisco and seeing a number of homeless teenagers there who were her age. “I wanted to do something for them,” she said in describing her project.
Estelita will be attending College of the Sequoias in August where she plans to major in nursing.
