San Bruno Marines Honored by Daughters of the American Revolution

The volunteer women's service organization held a special Christmas dinner for 25 Marines based at the 23rd Marine Regiment, which is headquartered in San Bruno.

As members of the military, soldiers based throughout the country and overseas don't always get to spend time with family and loved ones like everyone else.

That's why the Presidio chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution wanted to do something special this year for the soldiers based at San Bruno's , a reserve infantry regiment of the U.S. Marine Corps.

The organization honored 25 Marines from the base earlier this month at its annual Christmas dinner celebration at the Argonaut Hotel in San Francisco.

The Marines performed songs for their branch of the military and participated in trivia games the Daughters organized based on military history.

"There is nothing more intimate than sharing a meal with friends and family," Christina Ramos, the Daughters' Presidio chapter regent, said in a statement. "In appreciation for the sacrifices our military makes, as (many servicemen and servicewomen) are often away from family during the holidays, our Daughters of the American Revolution chapter has the privilege of sharing its Christmas Dinner (with them)."

This is the second year the Presidio chapter of the Daughters, founded in 2009, held a Christmas dinner for active members of Bay Area military who aren't deployed overseas but whom still are unable to go home from their stations during the holidays.
