San Bruno Task Force Nets Dozens Of Retail Theft Arrests
A three-city task force led to more than 150 criminal cases and the recovery of merchandise worth tens of thousands of dollars last year.
SAN BRUNO, CA — A retail crime task force operated by the San Mateo, San Bruno and Daly City police departments led to nearly 200 arrests and tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise recovered last year, according to police.
The Organized Retail Theft Task Force (ORTTF) is supported by a multi-million dollar grant awarded by the California Board of State and Community Corrections. The partnership between the three cities began in November 2023.
Just last year, police officials said the task force recorded 189 arrests, 163 cases and the recovery of over $80,000 in stolen items.

"The collaboration between the Daly City, San Bruno, and San Mateo police departments ensures targeted strategies and coordinated actions to address organized retail crime within our jurisdictions," the San Mateo Police Department said. "This effort is further strengthened by working closely with the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, ensuring a unified approach to investigations and prosecutions."
Officials said the three cities plan to continue their joint efforts to tackle retail theft and celebrated the results as marking "a significant step forward" in making communities safer.
