A View of Parkside from Above as Construction Prepares to Start

San Bruno Patch gets a final view of Parkside Intermediate School before the campus receives a new look.

San Bruno Patch Editor Martin Ricard got a tour of today before Phase 1 of the begins next month.

Over spring break, the school's shop and arts building on the west side of the campus will be demolished. They will make way for a new, two-story modular building, said Will McGuire of Greystone West, the construction management company overseeing the project.

The bid to tear down the school's two interior wings is expected to go before the board in May. The demolition of those wings is expected to start in June, McGuire said, and will create space for the new one-story modular building that will be located on the east side of the campus.

All told, the first phase of the construction is slated to cost $12 million, which the school board has agreed to fund with proceeds from the sale of the Carl Sandberg site. They also will create 28 new classrooms for the school and an open courtyard at the center of the campus.

The second phase of the project hasn't been funded yet, and the school board opted to to get the community's support.
