Caltrain To Discuss Modernizing In Upcoming Meetings

One meeting will take place in San Carlos on Dec. 12, while the other is scheduled in Atherton for Dec. 17.

SAN CARLOS, CA -- Two meetings to go over the modernizing of Caltrain are set for Dec. 12 and 17.

The discussions are slated for 6:30 p.m. at the San Carlos Adult Community Center at 601 Chestnut St. on Dec. 12; and the Jennings Pavilion at 150 Watkins Ave. in Atherton on Dec. 17.

The Caltrain Modernization Program includes the electrification of the existing Caltrain corridor between San Francisco and San Jose; the installation of a Communications Based Overlay Signal System Positive Train Control (CBOSS PTC); and the replacement of Caltrain’s diesel trains with high-performance electric trains called Electric Multiple Units.

The $1.9 billion program is funded through nine- and seven-party agreements that leverage local, regional and federal funding.

Caltrain's advanced signal system is being completed and is now in the testing phase. The entire project's phases are scheduled to be complete in 2022.
