Don't Let Your Heart (Balloon) Fly Away

They are everywhere this time of year--those bobbing, floating, hot pink and red orbs of love hovering above grocery store check-out counters and tethered to boxes of chocolates and bundles of roses. But if they escape the bonds of earth, those Valentine's Day Mylar balloons can play havoc with power lines.

According to PG&E, power outages caused by Mylar balloons have more than doubled during the past decade in the utility company's territory.

In addition, PG&E says runaway balloons cause disruptions to entire neighborhoods and can result in serious personal injuries.

So this Valentine’s Day, public works crews and PG&E ask you to tie those balloons to something safe, or keep them inside and deflate them once the holiday is over.

And remember, just because balloon goes flat doesn't mean your love has.
