A Montessori School Celebrated Opening In This SMC City

SAN CARLOS, CA — The new Montessori school for preschoolers and kindergarteners in San Carlos celebrated the grand opening Wednesday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Located at 510 Laurel St., the new Learn and Play Montessori school officially opened its doors in January, but local leaders spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday to welcome the school to the city.

"We know families are looking for high-quality child care and early years education for their children. We are very proud to call such a special place like San Carlos home," said Koressa Xuereb, the San Carlos Center director. “[We] are looking forward to being part of the community for many, many years to come

Debra White, the Busy Bees North America director of operations, spoke at the event. Busy Bees operates over 230 child care centers across the U.S. and Canada.

“Learn and Play Montessori may be new to San Carlos, but we have a rich history of passionate educators who are devoted to providing the best in child care and early years education,” White said. "Our vision is clear; to provide every child with the best start in life."

In January of this year, Busy Bees North America bought Learn and Play Montessori, including 15 Bay Area schools.

Learn and Play started in 2008, offering daycare, childcare, preschool, PreK, TK, kindergarten and after-school education in San Carlos, Danville, Moraga, Fremont, Pleasant Hill, Hercules, Milpitas, Dublin and Sunnyvale.

Erica Wood, the San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce president also spoke at the event, and over 30 students sang “It’s a Small World.”
