SAN CARLOS, CA — In a little legal turnabout, the preliminary hearing of a 26-year-old Pacifica man accused of double murder off Skyline Boulevard last month has been delayed from this week until his mental competency is evaluated, San Mateo County Assistant District Attorney Sean Gallagher said.

Malik Dosouqi will be evaluated by two doctors whose examinations will be included in a report due by Aug. 30, Gallagher pointed out. Until then, the case is suspended.

In legal terms, the "doubt" has been declared as to whether Dosouqi is able to ascertain what happens in the courtroom.

Dosouqi, who is charged with the stabbing deaths 25 hours apart of cab driver Abdulmalek Nasher, 32, of Pacifica, and Peninsula tow truck driver John Sione Pekipaki, 31, has pleaded innocent in San Mateo County court and expressed desire to represent himself, the District Attorney's Office confirmed.

San Mateo County deputies brought Dosouqi into custody last month after he tried to ram law enforcement teams just north of Reids Roost while they were responding to the scene of the first suspected homicide, found another victim and saw Dosouqi fleeing. The suspect crashed his vehicle when deputies fired at him.

The motivation for the suspected killings remains a mystery to the public at least.
