Patch: What services does Modest Spot Salon offer?

Steph: We are a full service salon offering color, (specializing in Balayage), cut, smoothing system, hair extensions and makeup services. We have been very honored to fall within the top 10 in Orange County for Best Hair Color 4 years in a row by the OC Hotlist.

Steph: I wake up early and go to the gym with my sister. The most amazing 55 minutes to cleanse my mind and start my day. We grab coffee and head home to see my kids off to school and then I head off to work.

Patch: How are you involved in the community?

Steph: I am very involved in the community. We live in the best town! With the best schools; of which I have attended. My oldest son attends SCHS and my middle boy is in 6th grade at Shorecliffs Middle School. I am very involved in fundraising and supporting schools any chance I get. One of the coolest things I got to see this year is one of my classmates now turned principal. I'm not sure how we are old enough, but Shorecliffs is lucky to have such a great leader in Dr. Baker.

Patch: What is your definition of success?

Steph: My son told me last year "hard work doesn't beat talent; when talent doesn't work hard."-Unknown. So I said to myself that is it; talent only gets you so far,you need to stay inspired, eager to learn (even from your 10 year old son) and authentic. I do monthly recharges and go over why I started Modest Spot Salon, what I can do to stay inspired and never forget where I came from. That is my success.

Patch: Can you tell us about your staff and their background?

Steph: Caprice Trejo is an amazing Stylist and Makeup Artist who I had the privilege of working with at Salon Gregories. Her dedication to her craft is impressive, always taking classes and eager to learn. Caprice has been with Modest Spot Salon since the beginning and has proven to be a force. Andrea Clemment has always been passionate about hair and fashion after working in various salons. Andrea went to the well-known Toni & Guy Hairdressing in Mission Viejo. Trained as a specialist in cutting and styling, her clients definitely noticed her attention to detail. To diversify knowledge, Andrea made the move to Loreal and Wella color salons; trained in balayage. We are lucky to have Andrea at Modest Spot Salon.

Patch: How does Modest Spot standout from the competition?

Steph: To start, we were just featured in the CBS News as the best salon in OC attached is the link:

I also took this question to our clients and was so touched and blessed by their responses. Clients said they feel so relaxed and love the aesthetics of the salon. The best compliment I received was it feels like home. We really pride ourselves on customer service and want to turn your salon experience into a spa like atmosphere.

Patch: How did you get involved in the salon industry?

Steph: I started doing hair when I was 20. I worked as an assistant for Louis Orozco at Salon Gregories in Newport Beach. Everyday I would leave so grateful that I would see such amazing work. I later graduated the program and became a stylist. I was lucky to call that salon my home for 12 years. In that time, I entered NAHA for colorist of the year and ran the salon color education program. I made the decision to leave, and opened Modest Spot Salon to be closer to my family. Now here we are 5 years later. I love my job, my family, and this town.

Patch: If you had to recommend someone three books, what would they be and why?

Steph:  Unfortunately, my 16-month-old daughter has been dictating my reading. Goodnight Moon is great, the Three Little Bears is just right, but all kidding aside, I started reading Vidal The Autobiography on Vidal Sassoon before I had the baby , and I can't wait to finish it. I definitely think it's a wonderful story and whether you are in the industry or not you can't help but appreciate it.
