Border Patrol Seizes 18.6 Lbs. of Meth South of San Clemente

The U.S. Border Patrol Wednesday afternoon seized 18.6 pounds of methamphetamine from a driver attempting to pass through the I-5 checkpoint south of San Clemente.

A 36-year-old male Mexican national was the driver of a white 1994 Ford Explorer, according to a Border Patrol press release.

Agents and became suspicious of the man’s nervous demeanor, the release states. They brought in a drug-sniffing dog which led agents to four meth bundles under the dashboard of the explorer and six bundles in a speaker box.  

The narcotics are worth an estimated $372,400 the release states. Border Patrol seized the vehicle and turned the drugs and suspect over to the DEA.
