San Clemente Heatwave Nearing End After County Breaks Records
Last Friday, the National Weather Service declared John Wayne Airport the hottest place in the U.S.
SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Breathe easy, Orange County. Last weekend's wind-driven heat wave draws to a close Monday evening, and in the coming week, San Clemente residents can expect cooler temperatures and patchier skies.
The cooler temperatures may be more welcome than ever, since the National Weather Service declared John Wayne Airport the hottest place in the U.S. last Friday. The airport saw a peak Friday temperature of 98 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, several other cities in Orange County broke heat records last weekend.
In Santa Ana, the OC Register reported record-breaking temperatures of 96 degrees, four degrees higher than the previous record in 1974. Newport Beach was just one degree shy of breaking its 1949 record, the report stated, with temperatures peaking at 83 degrees.

San Clemente residents can expect this week's temperatures to be substantially more comfortable. The National Weather Service predicted cooler temperatures with highs in the 70's, light winds and some marine fog in the early morning and late night.
