
A San Clemente-based charity Socks for Heroes, which gathers socks for Marines, pitted San Clemente High School against Tesoro High School in Las Flores, and the more inland school got the better of them.
The Sock Drive was between the two high schools as part of San Clemente’s Military Appreciation Night, said Jim Hogan.
Jim and his wife Carla founded Socks for Heroes following the death of their son in Afghanistan in 2008, as a way to improve the lives of service members deployed in austere environments.

“The [contest] was part of an effort to highlight the connection between our two communities through the service of our son, a Tesoro graduate, and a resident of San Clemente when he was killed in action,” Jim Hogan said.
