45 MPH Winds In San Juan Capistrano, Heat Advisory Extended

A high wind advisory was issued for San Juan Capistrano in anticipation of powerful Santa Ana winds through Wednesday morning.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — As strong Santa Ana winds stick around in Southern California over the week, the National Weather Service has issued a wind and heat advisory for San Juan Capistrano and all of Orange County.

Residents can expect northeast winds ranging from 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 45 miles per hour expected. Residents living in canyons, foothills and beneath mountain passes can expect isolated wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service additionally extended a heat advisory in place across much of Southern California. The Heat Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday as surging temperatures impact coastal and inland Orange County, with San Juan Capistrano seeing temperatures as high as 89 degrees Fahrenheit.

To combat the hot weather, the National Weather Service encouraged San Juan Capistrano residents to drink plenty of water and stay in an air-conditioned room, if possible.

"Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," The service said in a report. "Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances."

The High Wind Warning starts at 8 p.m. Wednesday and will remain in place until 4 p.m. Thursday. The wind advisory affects the San Bernardino and Riverside County Valleys, the Inland Empire, the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills, the San Bernardino County Mountains and Orange County inland areas.

Residents should be prepared for damaging winds blowing over trees and power lines, and should take down any outdoor items that may blow away in the wind.

"Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles," The service reported. "Use caution if you must drive."
