SAN LEANDRO, CA — A family of four that makes up to $120,800 per year is eligible to purchase a brand-new four bedroom, 2.5 bathroom single family home for $271,521. The home is being built in San Leandro, and it's part of San Leandro's Below Market Rate (BMR) Ownership Program.

There are two additional homes, also brand-new four bedroom, 2.5 bathroom single family homes, that will cost $626,344. The income cap for a family of four for those homes is $186,850.

The lovely two-story, 1678 square foot homes are part of the new Poppy Lane development by D.R. Horton. The small neighborhood will have 18 single-family homes in the Lower Bal neighborhood.

Applications for the homes are being accepted through Nov. 22, through the Rise Housing Solutions website.

According to the website, a lottery will be held for all eligible applications submitted during the application period on Dec. 2, 2024.

"There are two lottery applications for these residences," the site continues, "If you believe that your family qualifies for both income brackets, please submit a separate application for each income bracket."

Qualification Criteria:

  • Applicants must have a minimum household size of 4 people.
  • Household must have minimum 3% down.
  • Household income must be below the stated income limits. (income rises for more family members. See the site for a full table.)
  • Household must be able to qualify for a traditional 30-year loan through a mortgage lender.
  • The cost of the required solar purchase is $11,535, and is not included in the sales price, but has been taken into consideration in the affordable pricing calculation.
