San Leandro Awarded CA Prohousing Designation
The designation gives the city access to grants and makes it a priority for funding programs.
SAN LEANDRO, CA – The City of San Leandro has been awarded a tough-to-secure Prohousing Designation from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).
It demonstrates a commitment to dismantling barriers to housing at all income levels.
The designation is important because it gives San Leandro priority access to grants and additional points in accessing funding programs administered by HCD.

“We are honored that the State of California recognizes the City’s hard work and its commitment to housing production," said San Leandro Mayor Juan Gonzalez. "We look forward to the benefits that will come from this designation.”
The state agency praised San Leandro for allowing greater densities, floor area ratios and building heights for infill housing near transit, and streamlining approval of housing development projects through a review process without public hearings.
