$10K In High-End Cigar Lighters Stolen From SMC Business: Police

Police said they arrested two people after officers identified them as possible suspects in the burglary.

SAN MATEO, CA — Police have arrested a 40-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman Tuesday after the woman distracted an employee at a business in San Mateo while the man stole $10,000 worth of high-end cigar lighters, police said.

At around 4:54 p.m. on Oct. 21, San Mateo Police Department officers said they investigated a reported burglary on the 2400 block of S. El Camino Real.

Employees from the business told officers that on Oct. 20 a man, Dustin Becker, 40, of El Grenada, and a woman, Kiersten Kinser, 33 of San Francisco, entered the store.

Police said Kinser had distracted a store employee while Becker stole the $10,000 worth of high-end cigar lighters and they both then left the store.

Through their investigation, police said they identified Kinser and Becker as the suspects.

At 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, police in Half Moon Bay detained Kinser and Becker during a traffic stop.

Police said they placed Kinser and Becker under arrest for second-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Officers said they searched Becker's property and found lock picking tools.

They were both booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
