Coast Guard Rescues Four from Boat Stranded Between San Mateo, Dumbarton Bridges

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people and a dog from a stranded boat that ran aground between the San Mateo and Dumbarton bridges Thursday afternoon.

One of the people on board the 17-foot boat called around 2:30 p.m. to report that they had run aground with one child, two teenagers, an adult male and a dog on board, according to a Coast Guard spokeswoman.

The Coast Guard had to work with the caller to pinpoint the boat's location because it was not equipped with a VHF marine radio or a GPS unit.

A Coast Guard rescue boat crew was unable to get close to the boat due to the shallow water and tide, so the stranded boaters were hoisted on to a helicopter and flown to San Carlos.

There were no injuries.
