Police said a store employee called 911 after recognizing a man linked to other jewelry thefts.

SAN MATEO, CA — A man and woman wanted for multiple crimes were caught Tuesday while fleeing the scene of another intended target, according to police.
A worker at a jewelry store on East 3rd Avenue called 911 to report a man inside the store that matched the description of a known thief, police said Wednesday. Officers arrived at the store to investigate and saw a man leaving the store and running to a waiting Volvo that sped away.
Officers said an initial investigation revealed the man entered the store to steal more jewelry, but he fled before anything was taken.
