Road Closed, Possible Evacuations In SMC Due To Flooding: Police

Police sent out an alert at 5:20 a.m. and knocked on neighbors doors to warn them of possible evacuations.

MENLO PARK, CA — Police said they shut down a road Wednesday in Menlo Park due to flooding and began knocking on residents doors warning them of possible evacuation.

At 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday, the Menlo Park Police Department sent out an alert stating flooding has occurred on the 1300 block of Hamilton Avenue and Carlton Avenue from Willow Road.

"If driving, do not drive around a barricade or on closed roads. Driving into flooded areas is extremely dangerous and may result in injury or death. Avoid travel in the area until further notice. Do not call 911 unless it is a life threatening emergency or you need to evacuate. Fire and Police are in the area accessing the flooding," police said.

Automated calls regarding the flooding near the intersection of Willow Road and Highway 84 began around 4:20 a.m.

Flooding was reported by officials in two locations: on the 1300 block of Carlton Avenue, and on the 1300 block of Hamilton Avenue, specifically between Henderson Avenue and Willow Road.

Hamilton Avenue is closed between Willow Road and Henderson Avenue due to flooding, according to Menlo Park police.

Although the area is predominantly commercial, fire officials reported that approximately 20 residences are located there.

Street-parked cars in these locations became partially submerged as water levels rose. Emergency crews were stationed outside businesses, working to manage traffic safety. A driver was initially trapped in his car but managed to safely exit the vehicle, police said.
