Annual Poster Contest Opens In San Mateo Promoting Recycling
The winner will have their artwork displayed on local Recology trucks, and the first through third place winners will receive gift packs.
SAN MATEO, CA — The 2021 Poster Contest in San Mateo is open and the theme is “Compost Champions.”
The annual contest runs through Oct. 29, and kids from third through fifth grade attending Peninsula schools are invited to participate. Based on this year’s theme, participants are asked to show why it is important to compost food scraps, dirty paper and yard trimmings.
The contest is run by RethinkWaste, the Peninsula’s Waste Management Authority. The service area covers Belmont, Burlingame, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Hillsborough, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, parts of unincorporated San Mateo County, and the West Bay Sanitary District.

Posters must be 8.5 x 11-inch white paper in landscape.

Last year’s theme was “Rethinking Waste on the Move,” and artwork illustrated how students are practicing the 4 “Rs”: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot.
Earlier this year, ReThinkWaste also held a Trash to Art Contest, where students were asked to build an art piece using recycled materials.
