SAN MATEO, CA — San Mateo's Coyote Point Recreation Area has reopened for weekend use, but county parks officials warn that some areas remain fenced off due to tree dangers, and many facilities are without power.

The park welcomed visitors back for the first time on Saturday as work continues to repair significant damage from recent storms. In the meantime, neighbors can visit the area only on the weekends, and officials said visitors should expect long lines and plan to arrive early. The storms damaged a high-voltage power box, and visitors will need to bring cash to pay vehicle entry fees until power is restored.

The top area of the park and the Eucalyptus picnic area are fenced off because large trees continue to fall. RV campsites are also closed, and the marina is open by appointment only. Coyote Point's promenade, Magic Mountain and Beach areas are open.

Here are a few tips for visitors from San Mateo County Parks:

  • Arrive early! Park rangers will collect entrance fees at the park entrance.
  • Bring cash. Because there is no power, payment machines are not operating. The $6 vehicle entry fee can only be paid with cash unless you have a park pass.
  • Parking will be limited. Only half the park will be open. Rangers will turn cars away when parking areas are full.
