Officers shortly after midnight responded to an apartment complex on the report of a fight, police said.

Officers determined a fight occurred between two small groups over music volume, police said.

One person from a group of three grabbed a gun and brandished it to a group of five. Another member from the group of three grabbed the firearm before starting to leave the area, police said.

The group of three attempted to flee when SMPD officers arrived on the scene, and a fight ensued when members of the group of five tried to detain them

“SMPD separated the eight individuals involved in the brawl and recovered the loaded” firearm police said.

Monday’s arrest on weapons charges is among at least two such cases in San Mateo in recent days.

A 20-year-old San Mateo man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm and not being the registered owner, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and driving with a suspended license, the agency said on its Facebook page.
