Fight Over Money Ends In Arrest After Man Pulls Knife In San Mateo: Police

Police said the suspect fled the scene but was found nearby and arrested.

SAN MATEO, CA — A man pulled out a knife and threatened to stab someone Wednesday in San Mateo over a money dispute, police said.

At 10:41 a.m. on Wednesday, the San Mateo Police Department got a call about a man brandishing a knife during a confrontation on the 300 block of Villa Terrace.

Officers said they spoke with the victim, who told them the altercation was over a perceived owed money dispute.

During the confrontation, the suspect, identified as Emil Morales Garcia, 41, of Burlingame, pulled out a knife and threatened to stab the victim, police said.

Morales Garcia then left the scene in his car before officers arrived.

Police said they found Morales Garcia driving in the area of 3rd Avenue and S. Ellsworth Avenue. Morales Garcia was detained and arrested for criminal threats and brandishing a deadly weapon not a firearm.

Officers said they found a black folding knife on Morales Garcia and he was transported to the San Mateo County Jail.
