Last Lap for Malibu Grand Prix

Malibu Grand Prix Family Entertainment Center, a staple of good times for Peninsula residents for more than three decades, is closing at the end of the week.

The center, which opened in Redwood City 1979, is closing Aug. 18 after 35 years of operation, according to the San Mateo Daily Journal.

Miniature Indy car racing, miniature golf, turbo go-karts, bumper boats, batting cages and an arcade comprise the center.

The center has been on a month-to-month lease since earlier this year, according to sales manager Michael Craig. But even with reduced rent, the center wasn't making enough money.

Malibu is owned and operated by Palace Entertainment.
