Peninsula Candle Fire Displaces 6

DALY CITY, CA — Six people were displaced and one person was injured in a Daly City house fire that was sparked by an unattended candle on Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.
The blaze was reported about 1:50 p.m. in the 100 block of Plymouth Circle, where fire crews found heavy smoke coming from a single-story home.
Inside, they encountered smoke from floor to ceiling and began searching for anyone who might be trapped inside, while using hose lines to keep the fire from spreading, according to North County Fire Authority.

They found no residents inside, but one person who escaped before they arrived suffered from minor burns and smoke inhalation.
Firefighter paramedics provided medical care and the resident was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Six adults displaced by the fire were able to make their own housing arrangements, fire officials said.
The blaze was contained and extinguished in two hours. An investigation determined the fire was accidental, and caused by an unattended candle igniting near combustibles, fire officials said.
Nationally, candles are one of the top five leading causes of fire in homes, according to the North County Fire Authority.
