Bay Area Explorers Win First Place In Law Enforcement Competition
The Central Valley Explorer Competition puts young people through realistic law enforcement scenarios.
SAN MATEO, CA — A team of seven explorers representing San Mateo placed in the top three in multiple law enforcement scenarios at a competition June 20-21 in the Central Valley.
Police Explorer programs provide young adults aged 14-21 with practical experience and training, offering insight into law enforcement careers.
Police Explorer Post 211, representing the City of San Mateo, performed exceptionally well at the Central Valley Explorer Competition, which puts explorers through 16 realistic law enforcement scenarios to see who comes out on top.

Post 211 earned first place in hostage negotiations and third place in felony car stop.
"We’re beyond proud of our Explorer teams. They really knocked it out of the park this year. These young men and women continue to impress us with their dedication and teamwork. This is our third year in a row placing, and that’s thanks in large part to our amazing Explorer Advisors and support from POST 211. The future of law enforcement looks bright with these rising stars leading the way," said Ed Barberini, San Mateo Police Chief.

In 2023, Post 211 earned first place in exigent entry, second place in suspicious situation and third place in honor guard at ExCon, a national Explorer Challenge hosted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
In 2024, Post 211 earned second place in suspicious situation, third place in honor guard and third place in crime scene investigation at ExCon.
