San Mateo Police Arrest Man After Chase On Highway 101
Police said a convicted felon armed with a handgun led them on a chase this week while driving a stolen vehicle.
SAN MATEO, CA — Police in San Mateo arrested an armed man driving a stolen vehicle this week after he led them on a pursuit through the city and onto Highway 101, according to law enforcement.
In a news release, officials said SMPD officers were notified about a vehicle driving west on Peninsula Avenue and found it parked on Woodside, near Studio Circle. When officers approached to speak to the driver, police said he sped away.
Officers gave chase through San Mateo and onto southbound Highway 101. The driver exited at Ralston Avenue then returned to the highway heading north, then onto eastbound Highway 92. Police said the vehicle experienced some kind of mechanical issue, slowing down as it approached the San Mateo Bridge, then exiting onto a maintenance road.

Once the vehicle came to a stop, police said the man inside left with a plastic bag and ran toward Highway 92. Officers were able to catch up and tackled him as he tried to climb over a concrete barrier and onto the highway, officials said. After he was arrested, investigators found a loaded handgun on the ground.
Police identified the man as Dajon Hardy, 26, of Oakland, who was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on nine charges Monday night, including several related to firearms.
