San Mateo to Honor 'Everyday Heroes' Thursday

These individuals were nominated by the community for their selfless work in helping to make North Central San Mateo a better place.

The North Central San Mateo Community Wellness Initiative will host its third annual "Everyday Heroes" reception this Thursday, June 28, to honor a handful of locals for their work to make North Central San Mateo a safe and thriving community to live in.

This year's honorees, who were nominated by the community of North Central San Mateo for specific contributions in various categories, are Ruby Kaho the "Partnership Hero;" Bennie Shannon and Joshua Hugg, the "Sunshine Neighbor Heroes;" Allen Haysbert, the "Prevention Hero;" Eric Waldorf, the "Merchant Hero;" and Timothy Niupalau, the "Youth Hero."

"We are so excited to be able to honor people who don't often receive the recognition they deserve," said Michelle Vilchez, executive director of Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center. "Every day, these unsung heroes engage in work that has a positive effect in North Central San Mateo, and they do it without expecting anything in return."
